Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur Day Trip: Pyramids, Private Transport and Optional Guiding
    Admin

A Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur day trip takes you beyond the Giza Pyramids to explore the beginnings of pyramid building and the remains of an ancient capital. These three stops work well as a dedicated sightseeing day from Cairo or Giza, with private transport connecting the sites.

At Saqqara, the Step Pyramid introduces an early chapter in royal architecture. At Dahshur, the Bent and Red Pyramids show the development of the smooth-sided pyramid. Memphis adds the city behind these royal cemeteries to the story.

Choose the Day That Suits You

Visit all three destinations for an overview, or choose fewer stops for more time at Saqqara. Tell us whether you want transport only or optional Egyptologist guiding. Admission and guiding are included only when listed in your confirmed quotation.

Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur Day Trip: What to Expect

These sites are south of the Giza Pyramids and require separate journeys between their entrances. Arrange your route before travelling, including the monuments you want to visit and whether you are interested in pyramid interiors.

Our suggested planning allowance is a full day, around seven to nine hours including hotel pickup, road journeys, visits and a lunch break. This is an itinerary estimate. Your exact schedule depends on your hotel, traffic, selected attractions and time spent at each stop.

Saqqara: The Step Pyramid and More

Saqqara was a major burial ground serving ancient Memphis. Its best-known monument is the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, whose distinctive tiers make it immediately different from the pyramids at Giza.

Begin with the Djoser complex, then decide how much of the wider site you want to explore. Saqqara also contains decorated tombs and the Serapeum, known for the underground burial galleries of the sacred Apis bulls.

Do not assume one admission ticket covers every monument or interior. The official site lists several ticket categories. Confirm your chosen visits, current access and any additional tickets before finalising the day.

If decorated tombs or the Serapeum are a priority, consider a longer Saqqara visit with fewer additional stops. Trying to include every attraction in a three-site itinerary can leave little time to appreciate the details.

Memphis: The Ancient Capital Behind the Pyramid Fields

Memphis was an important capital of ancient Egypt, and its associated cemeteries include the pyramid fields of Saqqara and Dahshur. Together, the city remains and necropolis form part of the UNESCO World Heritage property extending from Giza to Dahshur.

Use this stop to connect the monuments with the city they served. Memphis is an archaeological visit, so approach it as a chance to understand the ancient capital rather than expecting a complete standing city.

A guide can help explain how the city, royal power and burial landscapes were connected. Agree on the specific visitor area and the time available when planning your itinerary.

Dahshur: The Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid

Dahshur is home to two celebrated pyramids of King Sneferu. The Bent Pyramid is recognised by its change of angle, while the Red Pyramid presents the smooth-sided form that would become familiar at Giza.

Seeing these monuments after Saqqara gives the day a clear architectural story: from a stepped royal monument to the development of the true pyramid.

Decide in advance whether you want exterior visits only or hope to enter a pyramid. Interior access must be checked for your date. Allow extra time if entering, and ask about the access conditions before committing, particularly if narrow passages or steep steps would be difficult for anyone in your group.

A Suggested Route from Cairo or Giza

    1. Hotel pickup: start at an agreed time with your private driver.
    2. Saqqara: visit the Djoser complex and any additional monuments selected in advance.
    3. Memphis: explore the agreed visitor area and the story of the ancient capital.
    4. Lunch break: include a meal stop if requested, with the cost confirmed separately.
    5. Dahshur: visit the Bent and Red Pyramids, subject to access and available time.
    6. Return journey: travel back to your hotel or another agreed destination.

This is a suggested route, not a fixed timetable. The order can be adjusted around opening hours, your priorities and local conditions.

Private Transport and Optional Egyptologist Guiding

Camel Transfers can arrange private sightseeing transport from Cairo or Giza. Send your pickup address, date, passenger numbers and preferred stops so we can recommend a suitable vehicle and quote for the planned duration.

Transport only suits travellers who want independent visits with a driver connecting the sites. Add a licensed Egyptologist guide if you would like historical explanations and help linking the places together.

Tell us your preferred guiding language and any requirements for child seats, luggage or mobility. Guiding, admission, meals and additional waiting time should each be confirmed in your quotation.

    Tickets and Practical Planning

    • Check each site separately: Saqqara, Memphis and Dahshur have their own admission arrangements.
    • Select Saqqara extras: confirm any tombs, underground galleries or pyramid interiors you want to include.
    • Wear comfortable shoes: expect outdoor walking and uneven surfaces.
    • Prepare for sunshine: bring a hat, sun protection and water for the road journeys, following site rules.
    • Plan a manageable day: keep room for breaks, especially when travelling with children.
    • Confirm current information: prices, access and opening hours can change.

For official visitor information, check the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities pages for Saqqara and Dahshur . Confirm Memphis admission arrangements for your planned date.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can I visit all three sites in one day?

Yes, a full-day itinerary can be arranged. The time available at Saqqara will depend on the extra monuments you choose and how long you spend at the other stops.

Should I combine this trip with the Giza Pyramids?

For a comfortable pace, we suggest separate days. Adding Giza to all three sites makes the itinerary much busier and reduces time at each destination.

Can I book Saqqara and Dahshur without Memphis?

Yes. Tell us which stops you prefer and we will quote for that route.

Are tickets included in the vehicle price?

Only if your confirmed quotation explicitly includes them. Otherwise, admission is separate.
